I think this is my favorite picture.  This really was taken looking straight up and it seemed
as light as day.  The other part of the New Years celebration is all in honor of an African
sea goddess.  For days ahead of time people leave flowers, candles, food, etc. on the
beaches as offerings.  Some of the setups were really elaborate - entire feasts.  On
Copacabana so many flowers had been thrown into the sea that if you were standing on
the edge of the water your ankles were just getting whipped by all of the stalks.  The last
thing people do (at midnight) is wade into the ocean and jump up and down with the first
seven waves, making a wish with each one.
