Just a few of the many, many fireworks that were set off at midnight.
This shot is kind of looking down the beach - they had about half a
dozen separate places they set them off from.  All of those spots
consisted of a large quantity of explosives, about five feet, and then
a plastic fence separating them from the crowds.  You'd never see
that in the U.S.  On the downside about 50 people were injured from
flaming debris.  On the upside, fireworks will never be quite as pretty
any other way once you've viewed them from directy underneath.
And notice the raindrops - we really were completely soaked (and
freezing!  ok, well that part's all relative : ) ).
